Passed it again, huh. I keep losing track... wonder if it's a good thing.

....

Hey, so... does anybody have a particular day - or more than one, I guess - that means something to them? Not their birthday or a holiday or anything like that, I mean a regular, normal day where something important or significant happened to them. Could be good or bad, whatever.

[Zack's in a weird mood today, for... various reasons. He's also lounging in the hammock outside House 50, enjoying it while he can before the cold weather forces him to take it down, so if you happen to be in the area, feel free to bother him that way instead.]

Why not? I mean the thing apparently is a universal power source. I mean I can get if people get negative reactions to it in terms of personal exposure, but the plants have to be a godsend depending on the emissions it gives of.

Well, that's where things get kinda dicey. Mako's pretty powerful, but the wrong kind of exposure can really hurt people- make them sick, or turn them into weird-looking creatures. And usually it's kept really carefully in special plants, but we had a terrorist group protesting it, saying it was damaging the planet... so yeah, not everybody's happy about it.

[...] I guess that sort of thing would happen with any major energy source. [Creatures though? That's intense and slightly interesting-]

It can mutate people like that?
wingenvy: (it's a new life for me)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-19 10:45 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, unfortunately. Enough raw mako can turn people into monsters. I've seen it happen.
wingenvy: (I want those wings)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-19 05:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Heh, no kidding. Thankfully that doesn't happen much, so most people are safe. Those are sorta like extreme cases, you know?

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-19 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, like with people's fears about nuc. There's not a lot of the extreme cases you like to see in movies and books.
wingenvy: (mr blue you did it right)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-20 04:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Dunno if I know that term. I don't think we have that on Gaia. It's similar to mako, then?

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 04:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Nuclear power. It's less of a chemical and more of the energy you get from radiation given off when you split an atom. I doubt the principle is at all similar of mako's really a chemical, but the basic fears you're mentioning seem similar. Plus it's kinda a catch-all in terms of power in the same way.
wingenvy: (it's a new day)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-20 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Gotcha.

Man, the price of convenience is pretty annoying, huh? Makes me wonder what kind of power source the Malnosso are using, to run all the fancy equipment they must use. I mean, how much power would something as big as the barrier use up?

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-20 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Unless you're not thinking outside the box enough. Maybe the barrier's powered with thought or imagination or something.
wingenvy: (scent of the pine)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-20 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
....What? How could they do that? [That makes no sense to him, ffff.]

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
Like say the ambient "energy" which is generated when we as humans think is somehow harnessed and put into some sort of "imagination" reactor.
wingenvy: (meet me in the crowd)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-21 06:19 am (UTC)(link)
That's a pretty out-there theory. [Then again, with the things he's seen in his lifetime...]

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-21 03:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really; think about is cosmically! Cos-mic-cal-ly! Your planet uses mako to power things which I've never heard of, we use nuclear power which you've never heard of - among other things - some other worlds might use other things. For someone here, the idea of thoughts powering things might be totally normal.
wingenvy: (that's what I mean)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-21 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
That would be pretty cool if a world could be fueled like that. Maybe that's where the experiments come from- some sort of backlash from the weird stuff the Malnosso think up to power the world!

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-22 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
No, no, that's just stupid. The experiments are clearly a Shift and the Shifts are probably caused by them. I bet the barrier is by us.
wingenvy: (when day is done)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-23 05:02 am (UTC)(link)
[.....Man, this kid doesn't pull his punches.] Well, nobody's really explained how they create Shifts, either.

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
There's different extents of them - personal ones and ones they generate with machines. Other that that... hm.
wingenvy: (sleep in peace)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-23 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
So how about the personal ones? If that's not imagination, I don't know what is.

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt it's just that. It's probably more like... [A long pause and then his tone drops a bit with-] belief, maybe.
wingenvy: (mr blue you did it right)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-23 05:30 am (UTC)(link)
Belief? Why do you think that?

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
Well it's it too easy for it to be "you dream it, it happens?" You probably need to make yourself believe that something will happen.
wingenvy: (see how the sun shines brightly)

[personal profile] wingenvy 2009-10-23 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm... maybe. We'll probably never know until someone tells it to us straight.

[identity profile] god-is-a-dude.livejournal.com 2009-10-23 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the would point of this game is to guess before that.
