[After shutting the door behind himself, Cloud leans against it and folds his arms, prepared to launch into a long-winded explanation.]

Mako is the refined, strained and purified form of the Lifestream, which is...a bunch of souls. Mako energy used to be the main source of power for my world until the reactors were shut down to preserve the environment. A while back, Shinra Inc. -the power company and monopolizer of mako energy- used Mako energy infusion in their SOLDIER program to create super-human fighters. [Cloud points to his eyes.] S'what makes them glow; mako glows neon green.

Too much of the stuff really messes you up though. It's hard to describe.

No it isn't. It sounds similar to Spice, just much more malevolant...right down to its monopilization by the elite. It's why my eyes are blue. And if so, we can alleviate some of his symptoms in the same way.

It will help him if you flush his system.

No, it's not the same because you don't eat mako, it's injected into your bloodstream. There isn't a way to flush his system; he has to get used to it.

[Leto is fascinated despite himself. That there might be a drug so closely analagous to Spice is amazing and potentially useful. He visibly shakes off his speculations. First thing is to help Cloud's friend, after all.]

Cloud...if you'll provide me with a sample, i'll have this compared to Spice side by side. The cure for him must be within that puzzle...Wait. This wouldn't happen to have anything to do with those cells of Jenova's, would it?

No, you don't know what it's like. I've had Mako poisoning twice, it's not like possession. I know what I'm doing, Leto.
