Just wanted to let everyone know that Cloud's okay. He came home safe and is resting right now. Simon and Denzel, too.

Hey, uh, Tifa or Aerith, can I ask a favour of you guys?

Man, this place has been rough lately... I feel like we all need some kind of holiday. I'm baked.

[Don't shake, don't get upset, you're not helping things any.]

...We'll be okay. Yeah... we will.

[Trying not to. Don't look.]

[Oh Holy, come here. Cloud reaches out and draws Zack into a hug, tugging him down a bit also, so that the gesture is more supportive and less of a faceplant into Zack's neck.]

It's okay.

[Zack inhales sharply, hands twitching at his sides for a moment, before he lifts them and grips Cloud's shirt tightly, clinging, almost.]

I don't want it to happen again, Spike... I don't want to fight you, I don't want to fight Angeal, or Seph, or anyone... I don't want to kill anyone, especially not like this... dammit...

You won't. [Cloud packs as much conviction into his voice as he can possibly muster, and he clutches Zack a bit more tightly in return.] I won't fight you, and Angeal won't fight you. And Sephiroth...you won't have to fight him either.

It'll be all right; you won't have to fight us. I promise.

[The promise helps, more than Zack will ever say; he trusts Cloud, and Cloud had kept his promises before. So he relaxes, visibly relieved.]

Okay... okay. I believe you. We won't fight...

[Cloud knows it's a hefty promise to keep, but...

...Zack deserved hefty promises, ones that are kept. There was no way in all the heavens, all the hells and every world in between that Cloud was going to break this one. He'd have to be dead first.]

Good. [Cloud gives Zack another squeeze for good measure, but leaves it up to him to decide when he wants to break the hug.]

[And after a long moment, Zack does; much as he appreciates the comfort, he knows they're both exhausted and should have been asleep an hour ago. He tugs Cloud away, but when he catches the other man's gaze, he's smiling again.]

Thank you. I needed that.

Zack... [Cloud lifts his hand, but drops it before he sets it anywhere, seeming to change his mind.]

...I'll stay. I promise.

[Zack shakes his head.] No, you were right. Do what you need to do... just make sure you come home, okay?

Are you sure? We can work out a system; I can go to my room, lock the door, leave First Tsurugi outside... You'll know to avoid me then, and keep the boys and Aerith away. [Cloud trails off, feeling a little pathetic for sounding desperate.]

...I just...don't... ...want to leave you alone. To walk away from you and leave you by yourself.

Spike... I'm not alone. Yeah, I'd be happy if you stayed - I'd feel better about it, even if you had to lock yourself away - but in the end, it's you who has to decide what's best for you. I'm out of my league here, floundering around and trying to get answer for something I know nothing about. I don't know what it's like for you. So... I can't tell you what to do.

[Cloud's answer is immediate.]

Then I'll stay.

....Okay.

And we'll do that thing, locking my door and stuff. I'll tell the boys, and Aerith.

I can take care of it. You, sleep.

Well, I meant in the future. Not this very second.

I still say you need to rest more.
